The result is dryness, itching and breakage. With a little attention, though, both can stay tidy and healthy through the winter months.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Why is winter harder?<\/h2>\n<p>Cold air holds less moisture, and heated interiors dry the skin and hair further. Add to that the hat, which strains the hair mechanically too. The scalp dries out and can flake, while the beard can become prickly and brittle.<\/p>\n<h2>Hair care in winter<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash less often and with lukewarm water \u2013 hot water washes out the protective oils<\/li>\n<li>Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner regularly<\/li>\n<li>Avoid going out into the cold with wet hair \u2013 wet hair breaks more easily<\/li>\n<li>A hat is good, but let your scalp \u201cbreathe\u201d from time to time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Winter hair doesn\u2019t get better from using more product \u2013 it gets better from keeping the moisture in it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Beard care in winter<\/h2>\n<p>In winter the beard is especially grateful for care \u2013 and in return it protects your facial skin from the cold.
